Net Zero’s Youth Activist Sam Okorie Discusses Nigeria’s Progress Towards Attaining Climate Goals with Rep. Sam Onuigbo
New York, June 6, 2022
In #Nigeria today, oil and gas generate over 50% of the country’s primary energy mix, while coal contributes over 30% of the power supply for industry. How is Nigeria managing its commitment to reach Net Zero?
In the new Net Zero show, climate activist Sam Okorie gets an update from Rep. Sam Onuigbo, former Chair of the House of Representatives Committee on Climate Change, President of GLOBE (Global Legislators Organisation for a Balanced Environment), and the thought leader who sponsored Nigeria’s Climate Change Act.
“We have passed a clear legal framework that specifies our steps and associated actions geared towards attaining Net Zero,” says Onuigbo. “We have taken action on Energy Transitions. Nigeria is committed and Nigeria has no option but to work towards Net Zero.”
Earlier this year, The Protect our Planet Movement in association with Planet Classroom launched the acclaimed Net Zero video and podcast series in which 24 youth climate activists from the Protect Our Planet (POP) Movement in association with Planet Classroom ask international thought leaders working on the environment the big questions as to how their nations are progressing towards their 2050 Net Zero pledges.
